Charleen “Chuckie” Gilbertson, age 70, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa.

Charleen Faye “Chuckie” Gilbertson was born on November 11, 1939 in Decorah, Iowa, to Lester and Ida Mae (Pusher) Smock. Chuckie was baptized on March 18, 1951, at the Methodist Church in Decorah and was confirmed on November 1958, at Madison Lutheran Church. Chuckie attended Decorah schools along with the class of 1957. Chuckie married Robert Gilbertson on October 7, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Decorah. Together she and Bobby farmed in Madison township for many years, where she was a homemaker and raised their five children. Chuckie enjoyed sewing, baking, spending time on her computer on the internet. Above all, she loved to visit with her family and friends. She also was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Minnesota Viking fan. Chuckie was an active member at the Madison Lutheran Church. Attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events also has been a high priority throughout the years.

Chuckie’s survivors include her husband: Robert “Bobby” “Slim” Gilbertson, Decorah, IA. Three daughters: Linda (Don) Holthaus, Ossian, IA; Wanda (Mark) Steffen, Calmar, IA; Kathy “Gilby” (Lunch) Smith, Decorah, IA. Two sons: Kevin (Linda) Gilbertson, Decorah, IA and Bobby (Christine) Gilbertson, Marshalltown, IA. Ten grandchildren: Chris (fiance, Alison McLain) Holthaus, Jennifer (Chris “Pup”) Stanbrough, Erin Gilbertson, Devin Gilbertson, Bridget Steffen, Tyler, Casey & Lindsay Smith, Charlie & Kyan Gilbertson, with another little grandchild due in June. Three sisters-in-law: Audrey Smock, Coronado, CA; Inez Berge, Decorah, IA; and Norma Rosendahl, Osage, IA. One brother-in-law: George Kruchek, Decorah, IA, along with several nieces and nephews. Chuckie is also survived by two special friends who have helped her alot these past few years: Joyce Langreck and Sharon Anderson, both of Decorah.

Chuckie was preceded in death by her parents: Lester and Ida Mae (Pusher) Smock. Two sisters: Shirley Fonseca and Kay Numedahl. Four brothers: Elmer, Donald, Bernell and Dick Smock.
