Lieutenant William Lindsay, 67, of Elizabeth, N.J., died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Elizabeth.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a funeral service at First Baptist Church of Cranford/Elizabeth, 402 Union Ave., Elizabeth, on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at 10 a.m. Interment is private. Arrangements are by the August F. Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home, 139 Westfield Ave., Elizabeth.
William was employed as a New Jersey State parole officer, working in the Newark, N.J., Jersey City, N.J., and Elizabeth district offices as a sworn law enforcement officer. Promoted to sergeant in 2003 and lieutenant in 2009, he retired in 2010. Prior to that, he was a teacher in Paterson, N.J.; Passaic, N.J., and Haledon, N.J.
He served honorably as a U.S. Army combat engineer during the Vietnam War. He graduated from William Paterson University, Haledon, N.J., in 1977, with a bachelor of arts degree in urban education and community affairs. He was a dedicated New York Mets fan.
William is survived by his wife, Roxanne Gee Lindsay of Elizabeth; a brother, Robert Lindsay, and his children, Michael and Kristine; sister-in-law, Aliba Meggett; stepdaughter, Traci Fitch; stepson, Jason M. Harrison; mother-in-law, Irene A. Gee; father-in-law, Harold L. Gee of Pittsburgh, Pa., loyal friends, and his pastor, Rev. Diana Brown.
