There is a notation that after Martin died in 1876, Jacob Kruser, husband of Zilpha Criswell (probably the sister of Sarah who was deceased) posted $200 bond and was appointed guardian of the following children of "Smith" DeGarmo, deceased: Rebecca (no age), Zilpha Belle (no age), Francis (age 15/16), Isaac Newton (age 11) and Edward (age 9).
**Notes: 1) Martin's death date might read 21 or 24 (21 might be death and 24 might be burial). 2) This cemetery is sometimes called Peter's Run Cemetery as it is located ON Peter's Run Road, about 1/2 mile on the left of the intersection with Route 88 (just North of the Oglebay Resort/Park/Golf complex). 3) Information is also posted on each photo.
**Note: info received Dec 3, 2020 from F.A.G. contributor K. McGarry, lists oldest son "Burk" DeGarmo being a member of Battery H, 1st Regiment, WVa. Light Artillery Volunteers. He was captured 28 Nov 1864 at New Creek, WVa while working on fortifications and died 3 Feb 1865 as a prisoner of war in a Richmond VA hospital. Cause of death not stated. He was never married and had no descendants. Burial location not known.
