Clara Doris "Dottie" Overstreet Torbert (Goo Goo)- passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 14, at her home in Mobile, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 2, 1927 in Coden, AL, to Frank and Annie Overstreet, the second of four children, including Emory Overstreet, Frances Ross and Kathleen Bosarge. In high school, she moved to Mobile to live with Aunt Brosie in her boarding house on Church Street. There she met Jim Torbert, the love of her life and best fishing and dance partner. Dottie was a member of Coden United Methodist Church and dearly loved singing with her family and friends in the choir. She is survived by husband of 63 years, James W. Torbert, Sr. Children: Marcia (Spike) Maxwell, Jim (Debbie) Torbert, Jr. Grandchildren: Corey (Hilary) Maxwell, Kevin (Francee) Maxwell, Ryan Torbert; Great-grandchildren: Emma, Clara and Blakely Maxwell; Sister: Kathleen Bosarge; nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service and celebration of her life is planned Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 11:00AM, at the Coden United Methodist Church. The family requests memorial gifts be sent to the choir that she loved so much: Coden United Methodist Church Choir, 14943 Coden Belt Rd. Box 148, Coden, AL 36523. They are grateful for the loving care given to Dottie by Dr. Rodney Rocconi, the staff at the Mitchell Cancer Center and Mercy Medical Hospice Home Care group. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her and always remember how much she loved each of you. "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:31.
