Leona D. Ahlers, 77, of Salem passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Golden Living in Salem.

Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salem with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 am on Wednesday with rosaries said at 3 pm and 7 pm and a prayer service at 7:15 pm all at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.

Leona Hagen was born on December 19, 1933 to Thomas and Letha (Rhead) Hagen near Canton, SD. She was raised in the Canton area and attended school there. On June 12, 1962 she married Robert Ahlers in Sioux Falls, SD at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They moved to Salem where Bob farmed and Leona raised their three children.

Leona was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salem for many years and was a member of the Altar Society.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of Salem; two sons, Roger (April) of Huron and Steven (Noel) of Mitchell; one daughter, Linda (Jim) Gill of Fort Lee, VA; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Wayne Hagen, one sister, Bessie Hagen and an infant daughter.
