Mary Janet Lenoir, age 75, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Mary Janet Lenoir, Brave Hearted Eagle Woman, was born on October 19th, 1938 to Henry “Hank” and Flora (Gourneau) Martin. She passed away on August 20th, 2014 at the age of 75 years old. Janet enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1958 and received an honorable discharge in 1960. Janet married Michael “Wobby” Lenoir on September 3, 1964 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Belcourt, ND. Janet and Wobby lived in Los Angeles, CA and then moved to Portland, OR, and finally back to ND where she attended Mayville State University, earning her Bachelors Degree. She then attended the University of North Dakota to earn her Masters Degree. She was a member of the NDIEA, NDEA, Mayville State College Alumni Association, UND Alumni Association, and the NDAEA. She finally settled down in Belcourt where she taught within the Belcourt school district, the Ojibwa Indian School, and also teaching G.E.D. classes for 24 years. Janet enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, visiting her brothers and sisters, cooking and baking for her family and friends, and going to the casino. She will be dearly missed by everyone.

Janet is survived by her sons, Mike (Ruby) Lenoir of Belcourt and Curtis (Sandra) Lenoir of Grand Forks; daughter, Michelle Lenoir of Belcourt; grandchildren, Curtis Lenoir Jr., Aaron Lenoir, Eric Lenoir, Caitlin Lenoir, Ojawanoo Brien, DaKaya Lenoir, Natilie Lenoir, Racheal Demery and Perry Hill; great grandson, Carter Michael David Lenoir; brothers, Henry “Mokey” (Debbie “Chook”) Martin of Belcourt, John (Donna) Martin of Belcourt, Jay (Linda) Martin of Belcourt, Jerry (Charlotte) Martin of Belcourt, and Dean (Delilah) Martin of Belcourt; sisters, Twila (Rollin) Martin-Kekahbah of Belcourt and Cathie (Charles) Gladue of Belcourt; and brother-in-law, Glenn Sperry of Fort Worth, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hank and Flora Martin, husband, Michael Lenoir, brother, Richard “Butch” Martin, sisters, Judy Sperry and Carol Ransford, grandson, Craig Allen Lenoir, and brother-in-law, Orville “Ike” Ransford.

Urn Bearer will be Curtis Lenoir Jr.

Wake services will begin at 6:00 PM on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Janet Lenoir's Home, 1/2 mile North of Belcourt on Fish Lake Road (BIA #7, house is on the east side of the road going North), Belcourt, ND. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 10 AM at Janet Lenoir's Home, Belcourt, ND. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
