Narrative by granddaughter, Karen M. Davis:

Grandma and Grandpa Davis were heading to Westchester to see our family (Eldon & Maris) and my new baby (Cindy). Grandpa was avoiding a head on collision and veered into a ditch in Crescent City, CA. His Cadillac ended up vertically nose down in the ditch. They thought Grandpa wasn't going to make it, but Grandma had severe internal injuries. She asked the nurse to tell Grandpa "goodbye" and then she died. Grandpa Linwood ended up at my parents home in Westchester (where he was thrilled to feed Cindy her bottle). He suffered massive, very black & blue bruises over his entire body and he required 24/7 care by my mother, Maris. Grandpa's recovery was very long, it was quite amazing that he lived.
