James served 20 years inthe USMC, ret. S?SGT. then 23 years civil seervice. He moved to the Phillipines upon retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Grajo Vanek; his children, Frank W. Vanek, J. Douglas Vanek, Rowena Soliman and Analiza Vanek, all of San Diego, CA; two sisters , Annie Parr of Edna and Margaret Plunkett of Gonzales and six Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, William.
Funeral services were held in the Philippines on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006. Later services will be held at the W.O.W. Cemetery in Gonzales.
