Anna Foster was my Great-Aunt, who I never knew, died decades before I was born. She was my grandmothers younger sister, on my mothers side. She died at the age of 9 1/2. She looks alot older, probably because of the hairdo and fashion of that era. Look closely at the photo. She looks kind of sad, to me. Trying to force a hint of a smile. That photo was taken shortly before she suddenly and unexpectedly died. She died of Post Nephritus. Nephritus is a condition which is an ailment of an inflammation of the kidneys, usually as a result of an allergic reaction to drug therapy. Though even then, if caught in time, was treatable, preventable, and reversible. The common drugs which can cause this is: Aspirin, some cancer drugs, and lithium, a depression drug.

She was the daughter of Mary (Harshbarger) Foster and John E. Foster. She grew up in a farm family. Her sister, Leah (Foster) Whitacre, was my mom's mother. She had two baby brothers who died as infants, who she is buried next to. They were buried nameless. When her father was a widow at 68, he was arrested and convicted of rape and sentenced to Indiana State Penitentiary in Michigan City, Indiana for 10 years, his first and only offense. He was about to be paroled after 3 years at 71, in 1941, supposedly escaped, found 2 months later near the prison, committed suicide by self-strangulation. Though his supposed crime and his death were all under suspicious circumstances, neither was thoroughly investigated. Nor was there much, if any media coverage, or a search, after his supposed escape. Plus he was noted to be in frail health, too feeble to walk 3 miles, let alone strangle himself. So she came from an interesting and mysterious background.

One of her brothers grew up to be a private, silent child molester. He died in 1949 of a heart attack, taking his secrets to his grave. So I wonder what her childhood was really like. A picture is worth a thousand words. Such a short, tragic life she had, full of suffering. So much we will never know about her life, what she had endured. Taking secrets to her grave too, I'm sure. So many lost memories. May she have found happiness and peace that eluded her in life.
