The Rev. Guy J. Gervais, 56, of 48 Westwood Rd., died yesterday of brain cancer at the Bayberry Commons Nursing Home, Pascoag.

Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Philodore and Lucienne (Manseau) Gervais.

Father Gervais was a missionary of Our Lady of LaSalette, Attleboro. He professed his vows on July 2, 1952, and was ordained on May 24, 1958, in New Bedford, Mass.

He was first assigned as a missionary in Argentina. He returned to the United States in 1963, and served at the LaSalette Shrines in Enfield, N.H., and Attleboro, Mass.

In 1964, he became a chaplain in the Air Force. He retired in 1985 after 20 years of military service, with the rank of major.

In September of 1986, he was assigned as an assistant pastor at St. Francis of Sales Parish, Bennington, Vt., until he became ill in December of 1986.

He leaves four brothers, Gerard J. Gervais of Delray Beach, Fla., Roland and Camille Gervais, both of Woonsocket, and Normand R. Gervais of Sandwich, Mass.; two sisters, Lucille R. Gervais of North Smithfield and Marguerite Kenyon of Harrisville.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Francis of Sales Church, Bennington, Vt. Burial will be in LaSalette Cemetery, Enfield, N.H.
