Larry P. Agsten, husband, father, grandfather and friend, left us to be with his Lord on the evening of August 20, 2014. Larry was born in West Reading, a son to the late Paul F. and Helen M. (Buchalter) Agsten on April 5, 1937. A resident of the Mohnton/Cedar Top area for the most of his life, Larry attended the Cedar Top School -(he frequently made jokes on attending "Cedar Top High"), then attended Mohnton High School, and was a member of the first graduating class of the newly jointed Governor Mifflin High School in 1955. From high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force. His service took him to places around the world including England and Saudi Arabia. He served 4 years and received an honorable discharge from the Air Force. On October 16, 1955, Larry married the love and partner of his life, Carol J. (Keller). They would have been married 59 years this October. They became parents a daughter and a son. Larry began his career as an electrical engineer at Western Electric Co. in Laureldale, and moved with the company to the present building location site, and stayed for his entire career with the company as they changed into AT&T, to Lucent Industries, to Agere Industries. During his active working years, Larry and his wife, Carol also built up a prosperous and large Amway Distributorship, encompassing the Reading/Berks region. His career in Amway took him and his family on many trips they fondly remember, and built many wonderful lifelong friendships that the family cherishes. While living in the Mohnton area, Larry was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mohnton, and is an Honorable Lifetime Member of the Mohnton Friendship Fire Co, Gouglersville Fire Co. and of the Mohnton VFW.
Upon retirement, Larry and his wife took residency to the area they love - the Ocean View, Delaware community. While here, Larry became involved in his community, taking on the role of President of the Squirrels Run Home Owners Assoc. where he lived. He became very involved in the growth, development and the life of his church - Community Lutheran Church in Frankford, Delaware. Larry also was selected and served on the Del Dot Commission that designed, oversaw and erected the new Route 1 Suspension Bridge Project. Larry will be lovingly missed by family, friends and neighbors. Besides his widow, Larry is survived by his daughter; his son; 6 grandchildren.
