John Edmund Didriksen, age 62 of 1842 Grove Avenue, Quincy, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 8:40 p.m in Blessing Hospital after a four year battle with cancer.
He was born April 21, 1943 in the son of Donald and Helen Fleming Didriksen. On August 7, 1965, he married Martha “Marty” Heidbreder in Quincy. She survives.
He attended Central High School in Sioux City, IA before moving on to major in Botany at his beloved University of Iowa.
He moved to Quincy in 1968 to manage Herleman Country Store. When the store was sold he joined Central Pattern Company and became Vice President. In 1997 he joined the Austin Group.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Quincy Country Club and was a former member of Quincy Rotary Club. John was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and a gutsy gourmet.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Dr. Pedar Didriksen and his wife Natalie and their children Brianna and Hunter of Cedar Falls, IA; a son-in-law, Curtis Lovelace and his children Lyndsay, Logan, Lincoln and Larson of Quincy; his mother-in-law, Mary Heidbreder of Quincy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald M. Didriksen and Helen Didriksen Connell, his daughter Cory Didriksen Lovelace and his father-in-law Charles Heidbreder.
A memorial service will be held Monday, March 13, 2006 at 10:30 am in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Rodney Bakker officiating. The family will meet with friends following the service. Private burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials made to Mississippi Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America in John’s name would be greatly appreciated. Hansen Spear FH
