Arlene D. O'Hara, of Scranton died Friday evening following a brief illness. She is the widow of John F. O'Hara who died June 15, 2004. Born June 25, 1942 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late Raymond and Catherine (Gaffney) Devereaux. Arlene is a 1960 graduate of Scranton Central High School and 1964 graduate of Carnegie Tech University in Pittsburgh, PA. She received a Masters degree in Education from the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a home economics teacher in the Coatesville Area School District. Arlene was a board member of the Lackawanna County Historical Society and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic. She is a past president of the Lake Waynewood Association and was a former member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Asbury United Methodist Church in Scranton. She was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Woman's Fraternity. Arlene was a loving sister and a loyal friend who enjoyed monthly dinners out with her high school girlfriends. Her summers at the "lake" were times she treasured and she held her "lake" family close. She was well known for her script writing and costume design for the Sandy Beach shows at the lake. She was preceded in death by her nephew Todd Devereaux. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 in the Asbury United Methodist Church, Monsey Avenue and Delaware St., Scranton, PA. Friends are asked to go directly to the church. Interment Dunmore Cemetery - Dunmore, PA. Friends may call Monday, May 5, 2014 from 4-8 pm in the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Avenue, Scranton, PA.
