SPENCER, Mary Horn, long time Tucson resident Mary Horn Spencer slipped away from her family and friends on February 5, 2009. She was 88. Born in Hunnewell, MO., she graduated from George Washington Univ. in St. Louis with a degree in nursing. During WWII she served in a Sioux City, Iowa hospital and established the first blood bank there. Following the war she moved to Tucson, AZ where she met and married Col. RB Spencer, USAF pilot. He preceded her in death. Following her husband's death, she resumed her medical career at the VA Hospital. They had three daughters, Leslie Fowler, Marybeth Spencer and Christena Spencer. She is survived by her four grandchildren, Jessica, Sasha, Sean and Christian. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She spent her time with family, her faith, reading and politics. She loved her cats, gardening and travel. Services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2009 3:00 p.m., Ramada #2 at Ft. Lowell Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to the VA Hospital or the Hermitage Cat Shelter.
