MRS. ALVA CARPENTER

Died Suddenly Yesterday After-
noon at Her Home in
East Main Street

Mrs. Alva Carpenter died at her home, Tuesday afternoon, November 24, 08, at three o'clock, of heart failure. She was in her eighty fourth year.
Henry and Clarissa Rising were the proud parents of fifteen children, of whom Mary Roxana was the eighth. She was born in West Winfield Herkimer County, N.Y., February 7, 1825. November 23,1842 she was united in marriage to Orvil Sharp. After the death of Mr. Sharp, which occurred in 1854, she remained a widow four years, then on Aug. 4,1858, she became the happy wife of Mr Alva Carpenter. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter began their married life in Merchantville, N.Y., and continued to reside there till they moved to Avon in the Spring of 1874. Mr. Carpenter died in July 1903, five years ago. Had he lived till Last August, they would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Last September, one of Mrs. Carpenter's sisters died, another died in October and now in November, Mrs. Carpenter, the last of the sisters is gone. Two brothers survive her; George Washington Rising of Saranac, Mich., and Charles M. Rising of Elmira, N.Y.. There are many nieces and nephews. Although no children came to bless her married life. Mrs. Eveline Maseley, a niece to Mrs. Carpenter came three years ago and since has taken charge of the home. No daughter could have done more to care for all the interests of the house hold. With ???? love and devotion she has ministered to Mrs. Carpenter, in these her years of need.
For about six-five years, deceased his been a loyal member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The Avon Church with its choice decorations and rich furnishings is a monument to the love and interest of this Saint in Israel. Her home was always open to the Methodist preacher, and her purse to every good cause. A noble Christian woman has gone. Right royally has she stood by the Church and been interested in everything which pertained to the improvement and moral up life of Avon.
We shall miss her. We shall all miss her.
The funeral will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m., from her home and at 2:00 from the Church.
