Susie was born in Slavgorod, Altayskiy Kray, Russia, to Heinrich Heinrich Wedel and Sarah Neufeld, #8 of 13 children.

She came to Canada in 1925 arriving in Quebec City, Quebec, then her family went to Swalwell, AB., 1926 to Peace River, AB., 1934 to Vancouver Island, BC

Reinhold, Susie (Susan) (nee: Wedel) Dec 21, 1920-Aug 19, 2005 Long-time resident of Black Creek passed away in her own home and went to be with her Lord to spend eternity praising her Saviour. Born in Russia, immigrating to Canada in 1925, first settling in the Peace River area of Alberta and then coming with her family to Black Creek in 1934 as one of the early Mennonite settlers in the area. Fred, her faithful husband of 39 years, predeceased her in 1995. Predeceased by siblings Elizabeth Schneider (Nick) Loskill (Bill), Dave (Melita), Henry, Mary Wedel, Peter, Jake and Helen (Bob) Martin. She is survived by her only child Heidi; brother John (Marg) of Kelowna; sisters Sarah Wedel of Abbotsford and Marg Davis of Burnaby; sisters-in-law Margaret B. Wedel of Kelowna, Margaret L. Wedel of Courtenay and 16 nephews and 15 nieces and their many children. Mom worked as a cook, housekeeper, and finally found her fulfillment caring for others as a nurse’s aid at St. Joseph’s Hospital. After the birth of her daughter she was happy to focus on providing a welcoming, peaceful and nurturing home for her family. She loved it when her table was surrounded with family and friends sharing in her great cooking and reminiscing in great and funny stories of the past. Mom also loved giving of the bounty that their farm provided to others be it eggs, vegetables, canning or baking. In the quiet of winter she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. Church family was also very important, singing in the choir, catering church events, loving and caring for others. Her strength and contentment came from her faith in Jesus and time spent in prayer. Her welcoming smile, words of wisdom and unconditional love will be deeply missed. Special thanks to Dr. Naaykens for caring for Mom in your wise and gentle way, as well as Home Care Nurses: Rita, Lynn, Pat, Sandy and Norma; Home Care Workers: Cheryl, Tere, Heather and Janet for making it possible for Mom to stay in her home. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 24th, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at the Black Creek Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Barry Falk officiating. Interment to follow at Black Creek Cemetery. Visitation at the Church from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Arrangements entrusted to COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 1101 RYAN ROAD, COURTENAY. Flowers graciously received. Donations can be made to the Black Creek M.B. Church — Mission Funds or charity of your choice.
