Husband to Sarah/Sallie Davidson (b. 18 Apr 1836, d. 24 Apr 1872; probably buried in Polk, Iowa), father of Anna Clara (b. 24 Sep 1870) and Sarah/Sallie (b. 26 Mar 1872, d. 7 Aug 1872). Husband of Mary E. Jackson and father of Loraina (Charles DeSellem) and Hariette (Hans Krause).

M.C. Ensminger was a resident of Denver for more than 50 years, and resided at 1000 S. Pennsylvania St. He learned the boilermaker trade in Indiana before moving west, and founded a boiler works in Denver with his brother Henry C. (1845-1896). Their plant became the nucleus of the Davis Iron Foundry Company.

He was a Union soldier in the Civil War, and was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic.

He was interred at Crown Hill Cemetery.
