William Michael "Mike" Jennings, age 52, died recently of natural causes at his home in Metairie, LA. He was born in Seattle in 1962 and lived most of his life in Metairie.
He was a decorated 15 year military veteran serving with the US Army in Germany and other posts from 1981 to 1985 and with the Louisiana National Guard from 1985 to 1996. He held a secret clearance and was called up for Desert Storm in 1991 as a Battalion Intelligence Sergeant working with computerized field artillery. He received the National Defense Medal in 1991 and an Army Commendation Metal in 1985.
He was educated as a librarian, computer information specialist and historian. He received a Masters in Library and Information Systems (MLIS) from LSU in 2008. He was an accomplished historian studying under Stephen Ambrose at UNO, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1988 and serving as a Graduate Assistant while pursuing graduate studies in History at UNO from 1989 to 1992.
In his civilian work career, he was an accomplished manager, information system specialist and librarian. He was accredited as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Systems Administrator (MCSA). Most recently, he served for 9 years at the Tulane University Medical School Library as a Librarian and Computer Information System specialist. Earlier in his career, he was a managing partner with Nexcor Technologies in Atlanta responsible for the development, design, start-up and operations support of sanitation management systems as specified by the American institute of Banking.
Mike is survived and will be sorely missed by his parents; of Jefferson, LA, his three siblings.. He mentored Ben in Atlanta and was a co-worker with Ben at Tulane. He is also survived by five beloved nieces and nephews, three beloved aunts, one beloved uncle, and numerous cousins.
Graveside Service were at the Southeast LA Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Rd., Slidell on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
