According to census data, Mary Anderson was born in England - probably about 1800. Her maiden name was Wigglesworth. She married James Anderson, and had several children. Joanna Sidney Anderson married Robert Carson Hewett M.D. and is buried in the next plot. Emily Francis Anderson married Emile Barbaroux and is buried in the plot on the other side. Both the Hewetts and the Barbaroux were living with James and Mary at the time of the 1850 census. Other children were John Foster Anderson, Col. Benjamin M. Anderson (CSA), and Edward Riley Anderson all buried in the same section. She had two other daughters. Mary R. Anderson married Benjamin Letcher and is buried near her mother at Cave Hill, and Mary Adeline Anderson the wife of Basil Duke. She also mentions a son George in her will.

Her will was as follows:
"Believing that my last days on earth are drawing near, that I shall soon fall asleep in this word and by the mercy of God, my eyes be opened in a far more beautiful and happier life, and that my dear husband should he survive will have ample means and not need the little property that I have been enabled from time to time to collect I therefore with his consent do this day June 4th 1870 make the following disposition of said property.

Firstly I desire that my children may not be charged with any money furniture or silver that I have given them.
Secondly that my sons George and J. Foster Anderson will act as my executors and receive the usual amount for their services. I desire that lot of ground on Broadway and the lot of ground on Portland Avenue to be sold off as soon as convenient and the money therefrom invested in interest bearing stocks also my notes or money may be in my possession at the time of my death. I desire the interest on said stocks and all other stocks that I possess to be divided as they become due and paid one share to each of my six children and one share to each of my grandchildren or their guardians for their use. Also if my daughter Mary R. Letcher at the time of my death has no child she shall be entitled to two additional shares of said interest until she
has a child and whilst she has only one child she shall have one additional share of said interest as this property if divided would be too small to be of use to my hairs in their businesses. I therefore desire said property to remain in stocks undivided until the year 1880. I hope my children and grandchildren will approve of this arrangement and that they will receive the limited income as a small annual present from their affectionate parent

Mary Anderson
Sidney A. Rodman
Kate M. Kennedy."

This will was entered into the court May 30th 1881.
