John and Marie only had one daughter who died three days after she was born. They raised their nephew's, Luke and Howard as their own children.

Funeral services were held at the Bethel Reformed church in Hospers, November 17 for John Houtsma, 71, of Hospers, who died November 15 at the Sheldon hospital.

Burial was made in Hospers Cemetery.

Mr. Houtsma was born November 12, 1899, in The Netherlands. He was married to Marie Wester December 4, 1929, in Chicago.

Survivors include the widow; and two stepsons, Luke Houtsma and Howard Houtsma.
