Roy E. Key, 78, of Bedford, died at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at I. U. Health Hospice House Bloomington. Roy had been ill for two years , seriously ill for one week, and died from Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Born May 12, 1936 in Williams, IN, he was the son of Richard and Ilene (Moore) Key.
He married Diana Lee on June 8, 1989, in Gatlinburg, TN; and she survives. They celebrated their 25th Anniversary in June, 2014.
He worked 45 years at U.S. Gypsum, retiring in 2001 and was a lifelong farmer. Roy was baptized at the old First Baptist Church, Bedford, and later joined St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where he actively enjoyed working with the Bereavement Committee and Senior Club. Roy also prided himself on raising his own pumpkins and squash and loved baking pies and breads and sharing these with family and friends. Roy was a graduate of Williams High School with the class of 1955 and was also a 6-year member of Indiana Army National Guard.
Surviving are his wife, Diana Key, Bedford; one son, Mark E. Key, Bedford; one daughter, Christie Jenkins, Bedford; and one step-son, Brent Terry, French Lick; granddaughters, Erica Brooke Guthrie, Cassandra Terry, Nicole Terry and Jennifer Ramirez, all of Bedford; one grandson, Landon Key, Bedford; three brothers, John Robert Key and Donald Key, both of Bedford and Jerry Key, Mitchell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eugene Key; two sisters, Mary Cummings and Pauline Robards; one half-brother, Leo Key and one half-sister, Claudine Craig.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2014, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford, with Fr. Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Bedford.
Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
Pall Bearers will be Jeff Key, Rusty Key, Bryant Trambaugh, Barrett Allbright, Kenneth Ratliff, and David Robards.
Flower Bearers will be Cassandra Terry, Nicole Terry and Kayla Trambaugh.
Memorial contributions may be considered to St. Vincent de Paul Building Fund.
