Thomas graduated from Clintondale High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Ferris State University. He worked as a computer analyst at Mount Clemens General Hospital in Mount Clemens, MI.An advid genealogist, he was a member of the Sterling Heights Genealogical & Historical Society in Sterling Heights, MI. Thomas loved genealogy so much that he went to England to find information regarding his family. He also visited many of the cemeteries in the area.He was an active member of Trinity Luthern Church, being involved in social ministries, as well as serving as an usher. Tom also served as a volunteer via Metropolitian Tabernacle Church with Metro Meals. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Navy.Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Janet M. Kluger Houghten; sons Christopher, Jeffrey and Michael; daughter Rebecca, his parents, Thomas W. and Evelyn Houghten; siblings Marsha (John) Fotiu of Roseville, Pamela (Richard) Walters of Shelby Township, Jon (Holly) Houghten of West Virginia, Jennifer (Duane) Block of Sterling Heights and Jeremy (Terry) Houghten of Mount Clemens and grandpa to Paris and Keegan.
