"Henry M. Todd, 58, well-known farmer of Nancy, died at Somerset General Hospital at 10 o'clock Saturday night from injuries received when he was hit by a truck on Highway 80 in front of his home a short distance west of Nancy at 6:30 o'clock. He received a crushed chest and a probable fracture of the skull and died without regaining consciousness.

Officers who investigated the case said Todd stepped off a stock truck which stopped on the right side of the road and started across the highway to open a gate in front of his home. He apparently failed to see an approaching truck, which was traveling west on the highway, and walked into the front side of it as it passed. He was struck by the right side of the windshield and was carried about 10 feet down the road where he fell off on the highway.

The truck on which Todd had been riding belonged to C.P. Garner of Nancy and was driven by his son, Tom Garner. The truck which struck him was driven by Walter Williams, of Nashville, Tenn., who was enroute home. He and a business partner had been in this county several days selling brooms.

Williams stopped his truck about 17 feet down the road, and the victim was placed in the back of the truck and brought to the hospital. Deputy Sheriff Killis Baugh took custody of Williams and conducted an investigation of the accident, which he said was found to be unavoidable. No charges were placed against Williams, and he was released, Sunday morning.

Todd was a native of Pulaski County, was a successful farmer and business man and was well known throughout the county. He had spent a number of years in the western states where he was employed as a cow puncher.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home of his brother, Tom Todd, and burial took place in the family cemetery. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Todd; four brothers, Sam and Jim Todd of near Shepola; Tom Todd of Nancy, and Lewis Todd of Texas; and three sisters, Mrs. Lela Taylor of Montana, Mrs. Lou Simpson, who lives on Fishing Creek, and Mrs. Luther Prather of Shepola."
