O. Wayne HAY (05/17/1931 - 08/26/2014)

HAY, O. Wayne (Age 83) Passed away August 26th at his home in Yuma, Arizona. He was born Oral Wayne Hay on May 17, 1931 at Tekoa, WA, to Everett C. and Velma (Waugh) Hay. He attended schools in Tekoa and graduated from Tekoa High School in 1950. Wayne then attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, where he received a degree in elementary education. While at Whitman College, he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Wayne enlisted in the United State Army in January of 1951 and served during the Korean War. He was discharged as a Sergeant in September of 1953. Following his service, he returned to Tekoa. Wayne taught school in Orofino, ID for five years from 1953 - 1958. In 1958, he returned to Tekoa where he started farming with his father. He worked for the family business until retiring from farming in 1992. Wayne had worked as a grain dealer, managed the Tekoa Building Supply for several years, and managed the Hay Apartments in Tekoa for 23 years. Wayne's hobbies included fishing and traveling. He had traveled in over 30 countries during his lifetime. He had spent winters in Arizona for many years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tekoa, and a Veteran of the Korean War. He was never married. Survivors include his brothe, Dan Hay of Tekoa; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Waldo Hay and two sisters, Beverly and Shirley Hay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tekoa, WA. Father David Kuttner will officiate at the service and burial will follow at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. The United States Army will provided military honors at the graveside service. Memorial Gifts may be given to Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa, WA. Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa is handling the arrangements.
