Mary K. Shafer, daughter of Nathaniel S. and Anna M. Shafer, was born July 17th, 1865 in Lancaster Co., Pa. Came west with her parents when two years old. Received her education and graduated in Beatrice schools. Was converted and joined the church at the age of 14. Was united with John W. Burden in the holy bonds of matrimony May 9th, 1886. She became a member of the Hebron M.E. Church, February 4, 1889 by certificate.
