Obituary: Alva H. Cogar, 78 of Bolair went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Webster County Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born December 11, 1935 in Jerrysville to Odie Cogar and Margaret Dodrill Cogar. He lived the majority of his life on Gauley River and Bolair. He attended Elk Valley Chapel and enjoyed going to church when he was able.
Alva retired from the coal mines after 27 years of working. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cutting wood, mowing grass, and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter and grandson. Every day he spent with his family he considered to be special times. Alva was a friend to everyone he came in contact with and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Alva is survived by his loving wife Bonnie Hosey Cogar, to whom he would have been married to for 55 years on September 5, 2014; loving father of son Steve (wife Sue) Cogar; his grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Elizabeth and Stephen Cogar, all of Bolair; sister Mazie Anderson of Price Run; brother Leonard Cogar of Bolair; and many special nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. Alva also leaves behind his very special cousins Roger and Dolly Cogar of Bolair. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sisters.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Alva's life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home with Pastors Kyle Hall and Doy Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in Beaver Run Cemetery, Bolair.
