Bloomington Evening World 05/25/1940

Frank McCormick, 76 years of age, well known resident of Smithville and a former road contractor, died at 12:30 a. m. today at his home. He had been in ill health ten years, suffering from a complication of diseases and his condition had been serious since January.

Funeral services will be held at 2 0'clock Monday afternoon at the Smithville Christian church and will be charge of the Rev. Mr. Klutche. Interment will be in the Clear Creek cemetery.

Mr. McCormick was formerly in the road contracting business and for a time was owner of the stone crusher at the west edge of the city, now operated by Ralph Rogers. He had spent his entire live in Monroe county with the exception of a short residence in Kansas.

He was born in this county on Aug. 20, 1863, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McCormick, deceased.

He was a member of the Christian church and before his health failed was an active member of the Knights of Pythias and Elks lodges.

Survivors are the wife, Mrs. Julia McCormick; two sons, Eugene and Leo McCormick, both of this county, two daughters, Mrs. Arabelle Wooden of Smithville, and Mrs. Josephine Smith of this city; a half-sister, Mrs. J. E. Luzzadder of this city; a step-sister, Mrs. Josephine Spaulding of De Come, Wash., ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

The body will remain at the Weir funeral home until Sunday morning and will then be taken to the home to lie in state until 1:30 p. m. Monday.

Active pallbearers will be Ralph, Marshall and Fred Wisley, Harold Hanna, Gilbert Luzadder and Ralph Hanna. Honorary pallbearers are John Fowlser, Ralph Rogers, John J. Campbell, George C. Miller, Oral E. Pate and J. L. Warring.

Final rites for Frank McCormick, former road contractor, were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Smithville Christian church and were conducted by Rev. Monte Klutche. Music was in charge of Mrs. Fred Deckard.

Burial was in Clear Creek cemetery and pallbearers were Ralph, Marshall and Glen Wisley, Harold and Ralph Hanna and Gilbert Luzadder. Honorary pallbearers were John Fowler, Ralph Rogers, John J. Campbell, George C. Miller, Orval E. Pate, J. L. Warring and George W. Henley. Four granddaughters served as flower bearers. Mr. McCormick died at his home in Smithville Saturday morning after having been in ill health ten years.
