Frank Wardlow, Veteran, Dies
Chief Commissaryman Steward Frank Wardlow, USN (ret.), of 12 Sunshine Court, a veteran of both World Wars, died last night in the Naval Hospital. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Wardlow enlisted in the Navy in 1909, and served a total of 35 years in both the Atlantic and the Pacific on board destroyers, battleships and cruisers. After his retirement from the Navy, he was employed at the Naval Base.
He was a member of the Naval Reserve, Branch 19 of the Fleet Reserve Association, and the Retired Civil Service Employes Association.
Mr. Wardlow was born in Joplin[sic], Mo., on July 4, 1891, a son of Hazen and Martha Banks Wardlow. He was the father of the late Joseph R. Wardlow and step-father of the late Christopher Powers. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Caroline Sullivan Wardlow; two daughters, Mrs. Philip Kazmier of White Rock, N.M., and Mrs. Theodore Gelinas of West Hyannisport, Mass.; seven sons, David B. Powers, Edwin C. Wardlow and William C. Wardlow industrial relations officer at the Naval Base, all of Newport, John T. Wardlow of Middletown, Frank Wardlow Jr. of Tiverton, Wyo., Leo P. Wardlow of Virginia Beach, Va., and Lt. Cmdr. Louis B. Wardlow, USN, of North Kingstown; 26 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday from the O'Neill Funeral Home to St. Mary's Church for a mass of Christian burial at 8 a.m. Burial will be in St. Columba's Cemetery.
