The name on the headstone is Pearl E Bland however, "Pearl" (as she was known) was born and named as Esther Pearl Frodsham. In In 1899, when she was almost 7, her birth mother passed on and before the end of that year, her father, Joseph Seymour Frodsham married Nephrena Madsen who then became the loving step-mother who raised her, even after Pearl's father died when she was only 11.

Pearl married her first husband Willard A. Keith on 19 June 1912. Willard Keith and Pearl had 10 children and when he died of typhoid in 1931, three of the children had previously died and seven of those children were left to be cared for by Pearl, the newly widowed mother.

On Nov 10, 1939, Pearl married Harry Osbourne Bland in Lethbridge, Alberta and then moved to Taber. Two of her sons were killed in WWII. Pearl and Harry Bland raised a combined family and lived together until Pearl passed on, years later, in Calgary on 15 Jan 1962.


She was a Silver Cross medal recipient.
