CLARESHOLM AIRMAN MAKES DARING RESCUE OF A HIGH RIVER BOY FROM WATER
High River - June 30 - LAC Art Hope, a member of the fire and crash tender crew No 15 S.F.T.S., Claresholm, put his training to instant and effective use on Sunday afternoon when he saved Jack Bourbonnie, a High River lad, from drowning.

The rescue occurred at the spillway bridge on the highway just north of town. A great volume of water pours through the spillway and a group of teenage boys were playing around the big gas main which crosses above the spillway, when Jack Bourbonnie fell off the pipe into the running water. Just as he fell in LAC Hope and his family were driving over the bridge in their car. They were halted by the screams of the spectators on the bank.

By that time Bourbonnie had been carried under the bridge and some distance toward the main river. Without an instant's pause Hope leaped from the car and ran down the course of the stream, diving into the water and catching the boy as he was going down for the third time. Both dropped out of sight into a deep hole, and it was feared that it would be a double drowning, But Hope, who is a strong swimmer, succeeded in battling the current and dragging the boy safely to the bank.

With a little first aid Bourbonnie was soon on his feet, none the worse for the experience. LAC Hope viewed ruefully his water logged uniform and all the soaked papers, passes, bus tickets, etc. that he carried in his pockets. He dismissed the rescue as "pretty much up his alley anyway" and went to his home at High River to dry out his clothing before reporting for duty at Claresholm.
