DAYTON MAN SUCCUMBS TO FARM INJURY

J.W. Lorett Suffers Fatal Hurts in Friday Mishap

DAYTON, April 11 - John William Lorett, 74, died here Saturday night as the result of injuries sustained Friday when his team dragged him over a disc and onto an iron rod, which penetrated his abdomen. A broken clevis pin was blamed for allowing the team to drag him.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Macy chapel in McMinnville, with Rev. Walter Smith of West Seattle, Wn., former Dayton pastor, officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Johnson, Dayton; Mrs. Lucille Barnum, Portland; Lenore Lorett, Salem; one son, Glen, Portland; a sister, Mrs. Ella Allen, Stoneington, Ill.; two half sisters, and one half brother in Illinois, and 10 grandchildren.

Mr. Lorett was born at Quincy, Ill., August 9, 1865. He graduated from Wichita, Kansas university, and married Mary E. Nelson at Corbin, Kansas, Oct. 11, 1893. The family moved to Albany, Ore., in 1902, later moving to Hillsboro for three years. Subsequently they moved to Dayton, settling on a farm where they resided for the past 35 years. He was a member of the Baptist church, and served on the board of trustees here, and also belonged to the Odd Fellows, Maccabees, and served on the board of the Dayton Telephone company.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at McMinnville Funeral Home, under auspices of Yamhill County Cooperative Funeral association. Vault burial was in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. Lorett was a school teacher for over 30 years, and was well known throughout Yamhill county.William married Mary Eland Nelson

Fall on Disc Is Fatal to Farmer
Dayton....John William Lorett, 74, a resident of near Dayton for more that 33 years, died April 6 at 10:30 p.m. at the Mc Minnville hospital. He was fatally injured at 11 a. m. April 5 while at work on his farm. He fell on the frame of a disc causing internal injury.
He was born Aug. 9, 1865, near Quincy, Ill., Where he received his elementary eduacation and later graduated from commercial college at Wichita, Kans. and began a 30 year career of school teaching before he retired.
He was married to Mary Nelson Oct. 11, 1893 at Corbin, Kans. Five children were born. The eldest, a son, Ivan Wayne, met death in a logging accident Oct. 2, 1939, at Williard, Wash.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lorett of Dayton: one son, Glen E. Lorett of Portland: three daughters, Mrs. Gladys M. Johnson of Dayton, Mrs Lucille Barnum of Portland, Miss lenore E. Lorett of Salem: 10 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs Ella Allen of Stonington, Ill.
He was member of the Dayton Baptist ChurchL IOOF: Rebebekah, Maccabee Lodges: Townsend Club: and the board of Telephone directors.
Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p. m. at Whitefield's funeral chapel in McMinnville. Rev. Walter G. Smith of West Side Baptist Church of Seattle, Officated, Burial was at the evergreen, memorial Park at McMinnville.
