American Songwriter, Singer, Manager and Record Producer. Born Robert Stanley Crewe, he initially attended Parsons School of Design in New York. In the early 1950s, he partnered with songwriter Frank Slay Jr., and in 1957, their song "Silhouettes" performed by The Rays, became a chart-topping doo-wop hit. In the early 1960s, he worked with Bob Gaudio on many hit singles for The Four Seasons as both a producer and co-lyricist. Among the songs that the duo collaborated on were "Sherry", "Big Girls Don’t Cry", "Walk Like a Man Bye", "Bye Baby", "Rag Doll" and "Can’t Take My Eyes Off You". In addition to his contributions to The Four Seasons, Crewe was equally known for his hit recordings with The Rays, Diane Renay, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, Freddy Cannon, Lesley Gore, Michael Jackson, Bobby Darin, Roberta Flack, Peabo Bryson, Patti LaBelle, and his own The Bob Crewe Generation. In addition to his numerous accomplishments in music, Crewe also achieved recognition as an artist, having designed a number of album covers as well as having had highly successful one-man showings of his paintings at several galleries across the country. In 1985, Crewe was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
