Alfred Nathaniel Parks,Jr.,95, passed away in Houston, Texas on September 11, 2014. He was a proud veteran of WWll,loving husband of Eloise, very patient father, genius businessman, and philanthropist. Al was born on June 29, 1919, in Wichita, Kansas, to Alfred Nathaniel and Mary Kaufman Parks. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife of 35 years, Eloise, and a son, Don Parks.
Al was a loving and devoted husband and father who will be missed by everyone who knew him. During World War II, he served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division. When he returned from the war, he continued building airplanes at Travel Air in Wichita, KS. Soon after, he joined Montgomery Ward and was eventually transferred to Houston. He has been a resident of Houston since 1956. After retiring from Montgomery Ward, he and Eloise started Eloise's Collectibles. Due to their combined business acumen, it was one of the most successful collector stores in the country.
Al is survived by his children, James Parks and wife Donna, Steve Parks, Patricia Eckel and husband Doug, and Melanie Broad, and 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Many other relatives and numerous friends are mourning his passing.
Memorial services will be at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, 1123 Burney Rd, Sugar Land, TX 77498, on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Salvation Army or Wounded Warriors in his memory.
