Allan E. Packer, 72, of Centre Hall, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at his home.He was born Nov. 28, 1941, in Bellefonte, a son of the late Ralph and Hazel Lutz Packer.On Feb. 26, 1968, he married Darlene M. Styers, who survives at home.Allan attended Penns Valley High School and served six years in the U. S. Army Reserve, including active duty at Fort Lewis in Washington.He owned and operated Allan Packer Concessions since 1968, staying active in the business even during his illness and until just days before his death.Allan had a deep interest in sprint car racing, and on each Tuesday of the fair would arrange to have multiple sprint cars on display at Grange Fair, and combined that with a bicycle giveaway of up to 30 bicycles. Working at his concessions and spending time at Grange Fair was a highlight of his life and he was able to enjoy the fair as recently as this year.He loved spending time with his
family, especially his granddaughter, riding his four-wheeler around town to visit with friends, being part of the Snappy's Coffee Club and attending sprint car races at Port Royal Speedway. He also enjoyed spending winters in Florida.He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Centre Hall, the American Legion Post No. 779 at Old Fort, the Antique Machinery Association, and a life member of the Centre Hall Fire Company and of the Pennsylvania Showman's Association.In addition to his wife, Mr. Packer is survived by: two sons, Tim A. Packer and Chad R. (Ashley) Packer, all of Centre Hall; one granddaughter, Adalyn Packer; and one brother James R. (Patty) Packer, of Bellefonte.A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 301 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall, with the Rev. Scott Klimke officiating. Burial will be in the Reformed and
Lutheran Cemetery, West Church Street, Centre Hall.Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Home Nursing Agency Hospice Program.
