Mary Ann was the daughter of Grandville White Grigsby and Sally Ann Rector. Mary's father traveled on the Grigsby Ide train from Independence, Missouri, with his father John Grigsby. John was the Capt. of the Battalion and became the "Bears" of the Bear Flag Revolt. Grandville served with his father in the fight for the Independence of California. Both parents are buried in San Luis Obispo. She is buried in Napa, her brother Henry, Mary is buried with her husband Benjamin Deweese. Mary and Benjamin did not have children of their own. Ben had children from another marriage.
