At age 12, Emma was working in a hoisery mill. She was able to read & write but apparently wasn't attending school.

Mrs. Daniel O. Abbe.

Mrs. Emma J. (Gallagher) Abbe, wife of Daniel O. Abbe of No. 1,623 Park street, died yesterday [5 Apr 1923] at her home. She was born in Thompsonville, January 13, 1857[*]. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church. Besides her husband she leaves two daughters, Miss Amelia Irene Abbe and Florence W. Abbe. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 10 a. m. at Grace Episcopal Church. Rev. Paul H. Barbour, rector, will officiate. The burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Windsor Locks.
