Longtime Tulsa Podiatrist Dies
Dr. A. Darwin Conley Jr., retired podiatrist and inventor, died Sunday. He was 80.
No services are planned. Arrangements were handled by the Cremation Society of Oklahoma.
He went into practice with his father in Tulsa after graduating from the Illinois College of Chiropody in 1933.
During World War II, Conley served as senior pilot in the Air Transport Command in the South Pacific.
Conley was installed as the president of the Oklahoma State Chiropody Association in 1951 and received an honorary degree from the Chicago College of Chiropody in 1954 for his work in the field of orthopedics with the use of plastic materials.
He is credited with inventing Darcon, a flexible plastic used in anatomical restoration, and Conform, a rubbery mass used as a shield for corns and callouses.
Conley practiced podiatry in Tulsa for 51 years.
He was a member of the Lions Club and the Akdar Shrine.
He is survived by one daughter, Diana Newbolt and two brothers, Ed and Earl Conley, all of Tulsa.
The family requests memorials be made to the St. Francis Hospital Hospice.
