Professional Hockey Player. A native of Montreal, Quebec, he was born Bernard Joseph Andre Geoffrion. He played the position of right wing. The 5'09, and 170lbs, Geoffrion who was considered a hockey legend played for the Montreal Canadiens from 1948 to 1949 (QSHL), and 1950 to 1964 (NHL), and the New York Rangers from 1966 to 1967 (NHL). He was also a Head Coach for the Quebec Aces from 1961 to 1966 (AHL), New York Rangers from 1968 to 1969 (NHL), Atlanta Flames from 1972 to 1974 (NHL), and the Montreal Canadiens from 1979 to 1980 (NHL). He was the recipient of the Calder Memorial Trophy for 1951 to 1952, the Art Ross Trophy for 1954 to 1955, and 1960 to 1961, the Hart Memorial Trophy for 1960 to 1961, and a six time recipient of the Stanley Cup. He married Marlene Morenz, the daughter of hockey legend Howie Morenz, and there son is hockey player, Danny Geoffrion. After his retirement from hockey in 1964, he became involved in coaching, and did beer commercials for Miller Lite Beer in the 1970s and 1980s. On October 15, 2005, it was announced that Geoffrion's uniform number 5 would be retired on March 11, 2006. On March 8, 2006, it was also announced that Geoffrion was suffering from stomach cancer. On the morning of March 11, 2006, Geoffrion passed away from the cancer in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was being treated. He was 75 years old. Also considered to be the first player of the slapshot, his career statistic totals were 393 goals, 429 assists, and 689 penalty minutes in 883 games. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972.
