Daughter of Isaac Doolittle and Mary Fay Gookin. Alice's obituary states she was born July 16; the gravestone is engraved July 18.

Alice married Theodore Hopkins on August 8, 1855 in Rochester, New York. Around 1860, the couple moved to Burlington, Vermont, where Theodore had accepted a position of principal of the Vermont Episcopal Institute at Rock Point, a private school for boys. Alice taught in school for girls there. They continued their work until 1881.

From her obituary in the Burlington Weekly Free Press, November 24, 1904: "Under a csomewhat(sic) quiet exterior, Mrs. Hopkins possessed a warm, earnest, steadfast heart, ever ready to be enlisted in the troubles and trials of others, giving herself unsparingly to alleviate distress."

Mrs. Hopkins is survived by one sister, Miss Mary Doolittle, a half brother, Col. Isaac Doolittle of Pleasantville, PA, two sons, the Rev. Dr. John Henry Hopkins, rector of the Episphany church, Chicago, and Richard Austin Hopkins of Sodus Point,N.Y.; and one daughter, Miss Edith R. Hopkins of St. Barnabas house, New York
