Daniel was the son of Edgar Botsford More. He was born on his grandfather's farm near Albany, New York. He moved with his parents to Chicago at the age of three years. There, he attended grade schools and Normal school. He was baptized at the age of 12-years at the Second Baptist Church. At the age of 17, he went to work in the Union Stock Yards. On 31 December 1894, he married to Alice Eugenia Dodge. In April 1901, he went to Eldred, Florida where he assisted his aunt, Carrie Rotrock More, in the running of a pineapple plantation. This work and the climate he enjoyed and appeared to be in better health. After a few years, however, he became anemic and died. At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, his son, his mother, and his sister.
