BEGLEY, Donald R. Sr. Of Midland, formerly of Flint, age 80, lost his fight for life with his family by his side on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center in Midland. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM Friday, March 20, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11824 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Father Kusitino Cobona officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Those desiring may make contributions to American Heart Association. Visitation 2-4 and 6-8PM Wednesday and 11AM-8PM Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Scripture Service will be held at 7PM Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Begley will be at the church from 10AM Friday until the time of the Mass. Donald was born in Covington, Kentucky on October 21, 1928, the son of Walter and Anna (Howell) Begley. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 413 of Grand Blanc and was Governor of Moose Lodge 2554 of Gulf Cove, Florida. He enjoyed driving his wife of 57 years around town and being in Florida. Mr. Begley was employed by General Motors for 34 years at AC Spark Plug Division; was Union Rep of UAW Local #651 and Vice President of CAP Council. Surviving are wife, Shirley Ann; sons, Don Jr. (Michelle) Begley and Gregory Begley; daughters, Shelly (Carl) Tomlinson, Connie (Rob) Spurling, Valerie Sanford and Judy (Larry) McKeon; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; also surviving are sister, Helen (Jim) O'Connell; brother, Earl (Pat) Begley and sister-in-law, Barbara Begley. He was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Anna Begley; brother, Herschel; granddaughter, Lori McKeon and great-grandson, Cody Sather.
