Before retiring he was employed by the town of Bloomfield and during World War II was an Air Raid Warden. Fred was a member and Past Master of Tunxis Grange #13 in Bloomfield and a member of the First Congregational Church in Bloomfield.
He leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Fred C. Jr. and Barbara Machholz of West Suffield; two daughters, Emily Lauridsen and Jack Alderman of West Suffield and Peg and her husband Paul Crowley of Guilford, NH; a daughter-in-law, Judy Machholz of Lexington, KY; 11 grandchildren, Michael Guy, Richard Guy, William Lauridsen, Scott Lauridsen, Kathy Crowley, Paula McEachern, Karen Aafedt, Fred Machholz III, Timothy Machholz, Shannon Castagnola and Cheryl Machholz and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Robert Machholz.
The family would like to thank three friends for their support and friendship, Dr. Jerry Cohen, Barbara Gauthier and his personal aide, Jane Ruffus. They would also like to thank the staff of Haven Healthcare of West Hartford for their loving care and kindness. The funeral will be held Tuesday, Nov. 16, 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, with the Rev. Linda Huff officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Bloomfield. His family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Tunxis Grange #13, Bloomfield, CT 06002
