Dorothy Anne "Arthur" Walter
Dorothy Anne "Arthur" Walter was loving, outwardly kind, and a dear friend to everyone she knew. Born in Los Angeles, Dorothy was the daughter of Dorothy and Stanley Arthur who raised her in Bakersfield. She graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1954. During her years there, she was the Girls' League President and was involved in numerous clubs and activities. She enjoyed sports such as swimming and tennis. Dorothy along with her two sisters Beverly and Betty set the U.S. record in swimming the medley relay; they held that record until the late 1970s. After high school, Dorothy attended the University of Oregon. Upon returning to Bakersfield, in 1957 Dorothy won The Kern County Women's Tennis Championship. In the 1960s, she helped establish the Fig Garden Racket Club Swim club "Fig Garden Dolphins" of Fresno, California and she was a charter member of the Bakersfield Swim Club. She was past president of the North Bakersfield Business and Professional Women's Organization. One of Dorothy's passions, researching genealogy, revealed that she was a direct descendant of Lord Baltimore. She loved to find out as much information as she could about family history and lineage. She enjoyed helping others. Using her skills as a genealogist, she reunited people with friends from their past as well as researching the history of their families. Out of the kindness of her heart she helped adopted people find their birth parents and parents find their adopted. Dorothy Anne Arthur-Walter was an extraordinary person who made a difference in so many lives. Dorothy is survived by: her sisters Beverly Neal of Sacramento, and Betty Bridge of Oxford, MS. her brother Robert Arthur of Bakersfield, her children Laurie Rankins and spouse Victor of Bakersfield, Nancy Frazier and spouse Keith of Bakersfield, Amy Latimer and spouse of Pacific Grove, CA, Patrick Walter and spouse, Andrew Walter and spouse of Fresno, and her 10 grandchildren. Dorothy's love for her family and friends brought her much joy. We will miss her infectious laugh and terrific sense of humor. Not a day will go by that we won't be thinking of her and all she has done for us in her lifetime. We love you and will miss you forever. Service held Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 7100 Stockdale Highway. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, River Boulevard.
