Daniel Richard Abbe, age 87 years, of Oliver Twp., Elkton died Tuesday evening, September 16, at the Huron County Medical Facility, Bad Axe.
He was born November 22, 1926, at the home of his parents, the late Jacob and Rose (Pincom) Abbe in Oliver Twp. and has lived in Oliver Twp. his whole life.
Dan served in the US Army during WW II, when he returned home, he worked on the family farm. On December 7, 1946, he was united in marriage to Rose Rinnert at her pastor’s home in Grant Twp.
In 1951, Dan took a job at Michigan Lumber Fabricators in Elkton and continued farming as well. In 1971, he left the Box Factory and started his own residential building business, retiring in 1989 to take care of his wife. She preceded him October 12, 1990.
In retirement Dan stayed busy building furniture and various other wood crafts. He also enjoyed gardening and collecting Indian artifacts, something he started in his youth.
On June 12, 1991, he married Barbara (Eckelson) Shotwell, who survives him. Also surviving are his children, Elaine (Roy) Krzeszewski of Munger, Dan (Cheryl) Abbe of Elkton, Esther (Arnold) Fritz of Owendale and Melody (Dave) Deming of Pigeon; step children, John (Lorraine) Shotwell of Edwardsburg, Amanda Ross of Caro and Steve Shotwell of Florida; ten grandchildren, Arnold (Brandea) Fritz, Roy (Catherine) Krzeszewski, Jody Milligan, Staffany (William) Forster, Tracy (Dan) Cavanaugh, Candice (William) Cain, Daniel Fritz and Jeramy (Melissa) Deming and 20 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a son, Edward; a brother, Jacob Abbe and his sister, Eva Sheufelt.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, September 19, at the Community of Christ Church in Grant Twp., Owendale. Elder Karen Bouverette will officiate with burial in Grant Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 3 to 8 PM Thursday and at the church after 10 AM Friday.
