From Greene Co. Historical Quarterly, Summer 1965: "J. A. Foster came to Greene County (AR) in 1869 from McMinn County near Athen(s), Tennessee. His wife was Amanda Barton, daughter of John T. & Caroline M. Barton. They had two daughters and a son when they came to Greene County: Elizabeth (Lizzie), Mary Jane (Molly) and William Miller, who was only three months old. The family traveled in a covered wagon and settled first in the Hurricane Community then later moved to a farm nearer town. Three more children were born; Sarah, Katherine and Tom. J. A. Foster was one of the civic leaders of Marmaduke and took great interest in the affairs of the town and county."
