Richard Stanley Burwick, Sr., 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Brookings on September 15, 2014.

He was born October 1, 1930 in San Jose, Calif. A 50-year member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Richard served as Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment traveling all over the state of California. He worked for 29 years at Stauffer Chemical and then retired. He then worked for Varian Associates for 15 years. In Brookings, Richard was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He also had proudly restored a 1938 Plymouth and was active with the Curry County Cruisers. He was a lifetime fisherman, enjoyed bird watching, gardening and bowling. He was also a great cook and enjoyed travel. He and Shirley previously spent five weeks in the British Isles touring Scotland, Wales, Ireland, England and Iceland.

Survivors include his wife, daughters, stepson and his wife and their daughter, brotherand sister, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard “Rick” Burwick, Jr., sister, Barbara and stepdaughter, Jennifer Gayle Frost.
