She was born in Liverpool, England, June 6, 1925 to Charles and Mary Jane Goudie.
Dorothy married John Abernathy of Erie, Colorado on February 17, 1945 in Liverpool, England, After the end of WWII, Dorothy came to the United States on the Queen Mary with their daughter Barbara. Dorothy and John raised their 5 children in Longmont. When the youngest two children were old enough, Dorothy went to work in the St. Vrain School District where she made many friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Longmont for over 50 years.
Dorothy enjoyed fishing and camping with her family. She also enjoyed knitting blankets for family and friends. Baking was another thing that she enjoyed. Chocolate chip cookies were a family favorite.
She is survived by her five children; 10 Grandchildren; 19 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandsons; a Brother, and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband in 2005; 1 Grandson; 6 Brothers and 3 Sisters.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Fri., Sept. 26, 2014, Carroll-Lewellen Funeral Chapel, 503 Terry St., Longmont, CO . A private family inurnment will take place at Foothills Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Longmont, CO.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be forwarded to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. of Colorado, 455 Sherman St., Suite 500, Denver, CO 80203.
