MARY JANE (RUMNEY) BARTON, 64 of Northport, passed away on September 22, 2014 at Waldo County General Hospital after battling cancer since December 31, 2012. She was born March 14, 1950 in Camden, Maine.

Mary enjoyed knitting, crocheting and puzzles. She worked at various places over the years including the Hideaway Diner, Ducktrap of Maine, Penobscot Frozen Foods and did various housecleaning jobs. She was also the caregiver for many years for the Thomas family and Rena Thorndike of Scarborough, Maine and Bayside.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph M. Durgin July 31, 1982 and brother Raymond Rumney of Corinth.

Mary is survived by her husband of 17 years, Leon C. Barton of Northport; her children, Paul Durgin and daughter-in-law Erica of Trenton, Maine, Michael Durgin of Belfast, and daughter Sharon Carter; her siblings Ella Rumney of Belfast, Rose Emmerton and her husband Rusty of Swanville, Christopher Rumney and wife Sharon of Northport, Ashley Rumney and wife Cindy of Belfast, Paul Rumney and his wife Nancy of Belfast and Jimmy Dean of Portland and sister in law Joyce Rumney of Corinth; five grandchildren, Joseph Durgin Carter, Alexis Durgin, Dorothy Connor and Brogan Durgin of Trenton; great aunt Alice E. Wellman of Homer, GA; sister in law Leone Harriman and husband Fred of Northport; brother in law Frederick Barton and friend Matilda Holt of Farmington, Fern Barton and Hulda Hodgdon of Northport and very special friends, Leroy Thomas and Mary Colby, Joseph and Elaine Saucier, Bub and Barbara Morse and her special friends Marion Hanscom and hairdresser of 21 years, Linda Nash; several nieces, nephews and “special kids” her cats Romeo and Snoopy.

Graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Searsmont.
