(October 27, 1924 - September 20, 2014)

Our father, Marvin Mace, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 in Houston, TX. He was born in Skiatook, OK on October 27, 1924 to Harry Mace of Spencer, WV and Beatrice Fisher Mace of Ft. Recovery, OH. He spent his childhood years in Coleman, TX with his parents and sisters, Colleen and Marilyn. His family moved to Seguin, TX in 1940 where his father worked for the Texas Railroad Commission. He served his country in the US Army during World War II in the Infantry in France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany, where he participated in three campaigns, earning the Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star. After the war, he attended Texas Lutheran College, and then Texas A&M University where he earned a degree in Fishery Biology in 1950. He remained an active and loyal Aggie the rest of his life. He went to work for The Pure Oil Company of Ohio as a petroleum landman, and spent the rest of his career in the land department of that company which became the Union Oil Company of California, and now is part of Chevron. He married Goldye Hurt of Seguin in 1950 and they raised three daughters and one son. Marvin’s career took him and his family to numerous locations in the US, including New Orleans, Houston, Columbus, OH, Roswell, NM and Denver. Retiring after 30 years, Marvin and Goldye returned to Seguin in 1985. An avid hobbyist who took his fun very seriously, he had interests in photography, golf, trout fishing and model airplanes. He was a competitive model airplane flyer well into his 80s and won several national championships. He designed the Marval model which became the Academy of Model Aeronautics 2007 “Model of the Year”. It is still flown by competitive flyers.
