Emory Nathaniel Allen, formerly of Bulloch County, passed away on September 21, 2014, at the age of 70. He was the son of Emory Alexander Allen and Katherine Farqueson Allen of Statesboro, Georgia. He went by the name of "Nat" to the people who knew him best, but didn't know a stranger. His persona commanded the attention of the room, either by his thundering voice or his physical stature. Nat enjoyed talking with everyone, putting strangers and friends alike at ease with his gift of gab. If the conversation was about racing, BBQ or classic cars, Nat would avidly contribute his two cents. He always voiced his opinion about his favorite drivers, the best way to cook ribs and the advantages of Chevy or Ford.

Following his service in the Air Force, he returned to East Tennessee State University, where he met his wife, Jane Blankenbecler Allen, of Knoxville, Tenn. Nat spent his life dedicated to his family and always put his wife and son ahead of himself. Whether it was teaching his son valuable lessons about becoming an honorable man, or supporting his wife in her decision to continue her teaching career, following his retirement. Though Nat battled various health issues much of his adult lifetime, he always had a positive attitude, a keen sense of humor and was continually excited about what tomorrow might bring. That optimism and the constant drive to never give up gave him a long and fulfilling life.
Nat passed with no regrets, having moved to Canton, Ga., to live closer to his son and daughter-in-law, Amy Jordan Allen, of Independence, Kansas, and enjoyed the final years of his life with the reunion of his family.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, his proud son, Robert; and his son's wife, Amy.
In accordance with his wishes, a private family remembrance service will be held in the Smokey Mountains.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to the American Diabetes Foundation.
